UISRP Opportunities and Activities
Students enrolled in chamber music at the University of Iowa have the opportunity to interact with UISQRP guest artists in multiple ways. UISQRP was created to be student-centered and Elizabeth Oakes tailors each residency to the needs of the students who are currently participating in chamber music.

master class1

MASTERCLASSES
While on campus, all UISQRP guest artists offer a chamber music master class for students enrolled in chamber music.  Thanks to UISQRP’s robust relationship with Hancher Auditorium, chamber music students also have the opportunity to work with outstanding artists performing on Hancher’s current season.

UNDER THE HOOD1

UNDER THE HOOD
During each residency, UISQRP artists and Elizabeth Oakes present a conversation about how the artists have built their careers and how they approach their work and life as musicians.

PROJECTS
Under the auspices of UISQRP, students have the opportunity to participate in special projects while being mentored by UISQRP artists.

In 2019-20, the Spektral Quartet partnered with UISQRP to create a year-long residency that was centered around developing skills related to programming and concert-presenting.

UISQRP is centered around the student experience and opportunities to work closely with UISQRP artists abound.  Students might have a one-on-one conversation about their research or small group conversations centered around specific topics and might eat a slice of pizza with an artist player later in the day!

concerts1

CHAMBER MUSIC CONCERTS
Performance is at the heart of UISQRP.  During the UISQRP residencies, visiting ensembles will present a minimum of one concert and often give multiple performances in various spaces.

Also, all students enrolled in chamber music / Chamber Music Residency Program have the opportunity to perform during the weekly performance seminar and on guest artist master classes.  The end of the semester culminates in two final concerts both of which are open to the public and also live-streamed for friends and family to watch.

SUMMER1

SUMMER CHAMBER MUSIC TOUR
Each year before summer break, Elizabeth Oakes takes some of the most serious student chamber groups on tour across Iowa.  Over the course of the tour, UI student ensembles perform concerts in various halls, present programs to high school music students and in elementary schools, and participate in other outreach activities.
